Visa Application for Germans
I found the visa application quite confusing. There are a lot of websites which give you a huge amount of information about the application process, but all these websites couldn`t really answer my questions. I had to ask a friend, who has applied for an Indian visa before, for help.
That is why I`m trying to write a fool-proof instruction right now so that if you decide to apply for an Indian visa nothing should go wrong.

If you apply from Sachsen-Anhalt, where I come from, the best website to use is:

You should know that the Indian Embassy outsourced its visa services to other companies which you often find in another location away from the official Indian embassy.

This should help you to find out which visa application centre is responsible for you.

The fastest, and in my opinion easiest, way to apply for the visa is the personal hand in at the counter in the embassy: it takes maximum 3 days!!
Collect all these things before going to the Embassy:
1. Filled out online application form: http://www.in.de.coxandkings.com/berlin1/apply_visa_counter.html
2. 2 Pass photos: 50x50mm
3. Passport: valid at least 6 month ahead of journey date
4. Copy of Passport
5. Exact visa fee: 63,78 €
Go to your responsible visa application centre and hand in all these things at the counter!
The people from the Visa application centre/embassy will go approve your application and then put the visa in form of a sticker into your passport.
If you want another person to hand in your application for you, you have to write a letter of authority with the name of the person who hands in the application and a signature of yours. Same procedure when you want another person to pick up your passport.

If you hand in your application before 10.30 o`clock you may be able to pick up your visa at the same day in the afternoon. If not, you can pick up your passport 3 days later.
In my case my mum handed in the application for me. Since she couldn`t stay in Berlin all day she asked the lady at the counter if they could send the passport to my home address. She had to give them € 3,50 and an envelope and they received my passport 2 days later.
If you prefer the postal application, you need to go to the website of your visa application centre(table above) and find out about their requirements. It should be the same process, just that you have to send all the required things( point 1.-5.)by mail and add a postage. Be aware that the postal application can take up to 2 month!
TIP!!!
If you are unsure about how to fill out the application form , there is a brilliant helpline: 0800/2242222 or 030-42025880. The helpline is free when you call from Germany. Don`t hesitate to ask them any question. They are really friendly and you can call them as often as possible. It is better to be 100% sure that you did not do anything wrong than if you made mistakes, which automatically will delay your visa application.
